Last week the Huntsmen EHL Team had a home and home with the Philadelphia Little Flyers. The Premier Team faced the New Jersey 87s on the road, and then ended the weekend at home against the New Jersey Bears.
EHL vs Little Flyers (Wed)
The Little Flyers started off hot and scored twice less than 8 minutes into the game. The Huntsmen answered back late in the 1st as Will Saunders scored from the point making it 2-1. A power play goal by Philadelphia made it 3-1. A few minutes after that goal they extended the lead 4-1. The Huntsmen had multiple chances but couldn’t score. The Little Flyers scored again in the 3rd period and skated away with a 5-1 win.
EHL at Little Flyers (Fri)
The Huntsmen took a 1-0 lead early in the 1st period. Giuliani and Arendes entered the offensive zone. The pass across to Arendes was tipped and Ajahn Teo-Berube followed the play and buried the shot for the lead. Shortly after that goal, John Manzi scored on the rebound in front of the net for making it 2-0. The Huntsmen ended the period up 3-0 as Arendes on the rush slid the puck to David Cook and he buried the shot to extend the lead. The score didn't change in the 2nd period thanks to the Huntsmen penalty kill which was successful against multiple Philadelphia power plays. In the 3rd, Arendes and Cook setup a beautiful give and go from behind the net, and Cook scored his second goal of the game to make it 4-0. The Little Flyers hit the scoresheet just after the midway point of the 3rd period. That was as close as they would get, and the Huntsmen won the game 4-1. Illus made 23 saves in the win.
Premier at 87s (Sat)
The first goal of the game was late in the opening period as Aidan Reedy tucked in a rebound chance giving Pennsylvania a 1-0 lead. In the 2nd period, it was all New Jersey. The 87s scored three goals to take the lead. In the 3rd, The 87s added three more and the Huntsmen lost 6-1. The Huntsmen were 0-7 on the power play. Goaltender Holden Bates held his own and made 56 saves in the loss.
Premier vs Bears (Sun)
Both teams traded chances but there was no score in the 1st period. The Huntsmen got into penalty trouble near the end of the period. (G) Strnad and the penalty kill were solid and kept the Bears off the board. In the 3rd period, the Huntsmen had a 5 on 3 power play but still couldn’t score and the game went to overtime. The Bears were on the rush and went into the offensive zone. Mostoller took the puck near his own goal and sent a long pass to the neutral zone. Bastista caught up to it with the defense on his heels. He didn't really have a shot due to the pressure but instead did a quick spin and sent the puck to James Mirigliano on the doorstep and he scored to give the Huntsmen the 1-0 victory. Strnad was great in net making 39 saves to earn the shutout.
