Huntsmen Sweep PHC but the Bears await

 

Last weekend the Huntsmen EHL Team finished a home and home series with Philadelphia Hockey Club. They won the first meeting earlier in the week 7-3 as Ryan Arendes led the way with 7 points (3G 4A). The Premier Team was on the road to take on the Philadelphia Little Flyers, and then returned home against the New Jersey Renegades.

EHL vs Philadelphia HC

The Huntsmen scored first as Ryan Arendes hit David Cook in front of the net for the 1-0 lead. After PHC tied the game, Pennsylvania had a power play. Liam Hellyer started the play at the point and Arendes took the shot, save was made, but Damon Warren was there for the rebound and a 2-1 lead. In the 2nd period, PA was shorthanded. David Cook was able to chop the puck away from a PHC player and it set up Xavier Tremblay in the neutral zone for a breakaway and he scored making it 3-1. Not long after that, Arendes led a two on one rush and buried the shot and the Huntsmen were up 4-1. Philadelphia notched their second goal of the game, but the Huntsmen finished the period strong responding with goals by Arendes, Atkinson, Saunders, and it was 7-2. In the 3rd Arendes finished off the night with another hat trick with a power play goal (2 assists) and the Huntsmen defeated PHC 8-4.

Premier at Little Flyers (Saturday)

This was an ugly game for the Huntsmen. The team struggled from the start and the Little Flyers scored 5 goals in the 1st period. Starting goaltender Viktor Strnad was pulled and Holden Bates played the remainder of the game.  Early in the 2nd Mirigliano led an odd man rush and perfectly setup Jaiden Batista to get the Huntsmen on the scoresheet 5-1. A power play goal for Philadelphia gave them a 6-1 lead at the end of the period. In the 3rd, Brahm Rohrbach scored a power play goal from the slot making it 6-2. The Little Flyers responded with 3 more goals. Tripp Young had the final goal of the game on a rebound chance, but the Huntsmen lost 9-3.

Premier vs Renegades (Sunday)

The Huntsmen had 17 shots in the 1st period, but the Renegades had a 1-0 lead. In the 2nd, the Renegades were on the power play. Braden Kozlowski stole the puck at the point and raced down the ice for a shorthanded breakaway and tied the game. In the 3rd period, New Jersey regained the lead with a power play goal. Tripp Young fought back for Pennsylvania with a beautiful shot off the post and in tying the game 2-2. The Renegades responded right away with a goal :11 later to take a 3-2 lead. The Huntsmen emptied the net late in the game, but New Jersey hung on for the win.

After sweeping the home and home against Philadelphia Hockey Club the Huntsmen (5-3) are getting set for a big matchup against the New Jersey Bears. The Bears are in 1st place in the South Division with an 8-0-1 record. The Bears haven’t lost in regulation yet this season but the “1” in their record is a shootout loss to the Huntsmen on opening day. PA scored two goals in the 3rd period (Warren, Manzi) to tie the game and then John Manzi scored the shootout game winner for the Huntsmen. The Bears are coming off a sweep to the Philadelphia Little Flyers 5-2, and 8-2.

               Premier

The Huntsmen (2-6) are on the road for one game this weekend. They travel to face the Union Jr. Thunder for the second time this season. The Huntsmen won the first matchup in a shootout a few weeks ago. PA was down 3-0 at one point, and goals by Evan Mostoller, Frankie Hartman, and Keagan Zelko brought the score even at 3. Shane Hill scored the only goal in the shootout for the Huntsmen victory. The Thunder are 2-6-1 currently 4th in the South Division. The Thunder are coming off a 4-0 loss to the New Jersey 87s and a 5-3 loss to the Renegades.
